According to Matt Brown’s official Twitter, their scheduled fight will not be happening at UFC 189.
The UFC did announce the fight last week, but as soon as it was announced, Nate Diaz took to his Twitter account to state that he was not approached for that fight and he wants to fight former lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis instead.
Matt Brown Tweet
Nate Diaz did appear on Monday’s The MMA Hour and explained his reason’s why he tweeted what he did:
It was just kind of like, ‘you’re fighting.’ Well then I guess I’m fighting. It’s all good, it’s in the past, it already happened. I just, I’m not into being tricked into fighting anymore. I think I should have a little more say. I think I’m older now, and like I said, if I’m going to fight, I think it should be worth my while, not just because they say I’m fighting and now I’m fighting. If someone got a hold of me, that’d be great, If not, it’s all good too. I don’t need to fight. Like I said, I don’t need to fight my life away. I’m all good with not fighting, so if they want to work that out, that’d be great. If not, I’ll be watching and tuning into the fights and making sure everything is going good and taking some time off relaxing.
The UFC are still to release an official comment on the cancellation of the Brown-Diaz fight but there is also a fourth spot left on that card!
Maybe, just maybe there will be a shock announcement, although as we now know, it will not be Anthony Pettis as he is now scheduled to meet Myles Jury on July 25th at UFC Fight Night Chicago.
It was the event we was all waiting for, UFC 185 where we would get to witness great elite, MMA athletes in a double-header Championship Title Event.
The whole card did not let us down, from the very first opening card right up to Anthony Pettis, Main Card Title defence fight.
There were far too many standout fighters for me to mention, they all did bring their A Game, with the exceptional few who lost out to what we could only describe, as this is why we love watching MMA, as anything can happen, and did!

Tonight is the time for Matt Brown and Robbie Lawler to go head to head, to battle it out to see who will become the next person to face Johny Hendricks for the Welterweight Title.
Last night or early hours this morning here in the UK it was the all important weigh-ins, but Matt Brown found himself in somewhat of an unusual situation!
UFConFOX12 is at San Jose in California, not only did Brown come in over the scales at 1.5lbs also Juliana Lima, who is a new addition to the new female Strawweight division came in over the scales 2 lbs [1.5lbs officially after two hours]. The California State Athletic Commission, for reasons unknown would not let Brown cut anymore weight [according to reports by www.mmajunkie.com].
No penalty was handed out to either fighter for the weigh-in ‘issue’ and therefore still remain eligible for the UFC’s post-fight bonus awards.
For me though it was Bobby Green that stole the weigh-in limelight, the ever professional was all respect for oponnent Josh Thomson [see photos] before switching it on for the close up ‘Face Off’ picture.
On the other hand, I could not make out Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but Dana White did have to step in a few times on a few other ‘Face Offs’ though!
On that note, here is the whole of the card and how all of the twenty-four athletes weighed in individually.
