UFC on FOX 17: Dos Anjos vs. Cerrone Full Results


UFC on FOX 17 came from Orlando last night, Saturday 19th December. The main event was  a lightweight championship bout between Rafael dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone.

It was to be Rafael dos Anjos who made a huge statement to retain his lightweight title in just 66 seconds on the first round defeating Donald Cerrone by strikes.

In the co-main event the new and improved Alistair Overeem dispatched of  Junior Dos Santos in the second round via a TKO stoppage  in a heavyweight clash.
Nate Diaz also made his long awaited return to the octagon and took home a unanimous decision win over top 5 lightweight Michael Johnson in a great three round battle which saw him also pick up Fight of The Night Bonus.

The Ultimate Fighter Finale took place at the Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada and featured featherweight athletes Frankie Edgar and Chad Mendes in the Main event.

It was however Frankie Edgar who ‘answered’ everyone’s questions by getting the win in 2 minutes 28 seconds of the first round via knockout over Chad Mendes proving why he should be next in line for the featherweight title. 

The co-main event saw  Edson Barboza takes on Tony Ferguson and it was Tony Ferguson who gained the impressive win with his slick D’arce choke coming midway through the second round in this lightweight bout.

Evan Dunham took on Joe Lauzon but it was to be Evan Dunham’s night where he fought a better fight in out striking Joe Lauzon to take a unanimous points win in this all important lightweight bout.

The Ultimate Fighter Finale saw Ryan Hall face Artem Lobov in a three round one sided fight, which saw Ryan Hall nullify Artem Lobov’s power and dominate via his grappling skills, taking a unanimous decision to become season 22 The Ultimate Fighter.

UFC Fight Night 80 came from The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, where strawweight Paige VanZant and Rose Namajunas collided in a five-round main event.

It was to be a very dominant Rose Nanajunas who came away with the well-deserved win in the fifth round after several submission attempts throughout the fight.  It was however the first time we got to see Paige VanZant bloodied up but whom also showed why she should be in there in the first place.  VanZant to her credit survived many submission attempts from a dominant Namajunas through the five rounds until she was caught in rear naked choke and finally had to tap.

The co-main event saw Michael Chiesa take the win over Jim Miller in a lightweight bout, while lightweight newcomer Sage Northcutt dispatched Cody Pfister via a guillotine early on in the second round. 

UK’s Danny ‘Hot Chocolate’ showed why he belongs in the UFC after his 2 min 26 second first round win over Nathan Coy.

The UFC made a return to Sao Paulo in Brazil last night for what was deemed a ‘Rubber Match’ between Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson, this time set at Middleweight (185 lbs).  It was, as expected though, another win for Vitor Belfort and within the two-minute mark via a well executed head kick which set up the final array of punches to call time on the trilogy.

The co-main event between Reza Madadi and Norman Parke was set to be a highly charged, lightweight bout after the verbal lead up to the fight. It was again left in the hands of the judges and Norman Park managed to get the all important win.
